Mark Hovell 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby) Regiment, killed in action, 12th August 1916, aged 28. 24th Brigade, 8th Division Mark Hovell was the son of William and Hannah Hovell, of Brooklands, Cheshire. He was married to Fanny Hovell, of Milton Cottage, John St., Sale, Cheshire and was Langton Fellow of Manchester University, 1911-1914. He was a budding historian and his book,'The Chartist Movement' (Manchester University Press, 1918; 1925; reprinted., 1963), was published postumously in 1918.
