My name is Andrew Hesketh. I have been researching WWI for a number of years, in particular the soldiers who participated in it. My enthusiasm began as a result of what I assumed would be the simple task of looking into the names listed on the war memorial of my home village of Tibshelf in Derbyshire. Many years later I am still researching it, having discovered literally hundreds of additional names to research!

As many of Tibshelf's soldiers were members of the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment (The Sherwood Foresters), as well as my great-uncle Herbert Burman, it was inevitable that my research interests would widen. This has resulted in me visiting the battlefields of France and researching in libraries and archives across the UK and the Republic of Ireland and in maiing cyber-friendship with fellow researchers in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada, Turkey, France, Belgium, Germany and many other places.

In addition I have contributed to a number of published articles and several books, including:

'The Generals' by Mark Urban, Faber & Faber (2005)

'The Somme' by Peter Barton, Imperial War Museum, Constable (2006)

'9th Service Battalion The Sherwood Foresters' by John Stephen Morse, Tommies Guides (2007)

'Blood on the Streets: 1916 & The Battle for Mount Street Bridge' by Paul O'Brien, Mercier Press (2008)

The webmaster can be e-mailed. I would welcome contributions and corrections! Please enter 'website' in the subject name option. I am able to receive attachments, but would appreciate forewarning for anti-virus security reasons.
