Officer's Training Manual Loopholes pp.75-87 Spadework for Riflemen. P.27 MFE. When making a loophole it should be tested with a rifle with various sighting. The bolt should also be removed and a sight taken through the barrel to see that there are no obstructions. Loopholes must be concealed as far as possible. Loopholes at the front consist of tubes placed at different levels.
Notes from the Front Part IV pp40. Loopholes are put in at an angle at the front.
Types of loophole;
Type B now used also best in a wall.
Size of loophole 6" trench end, 4" outside end.
Rifles should be removed from loopholes when not in use to save damage from occasional bullets hitting them. The angle of a loophole depends upon the angle of the ground.
